International Candy Swap

being as one of my pet candy-related interests is regionalism, i think we should facilitate candy-related goodwill with an International Candy Swap!

anyone who is interested in participating should email their mailing address to:

candyswap@hotmail.com

once i have enough addresses, i will pair you all up with someone from a different country or part of the country, and you can swap away! spending limit will be $10, including the cost of the candy and the cost of shipping it. in your email, please specify any allergies or dietary restrictions, and i'll pass those along to your swap partner. choose candy that is as local as possible, and don't make your choices until you find out where your swap partner is from, as what is normal and everyday to you can be crazy-exotic to someone else.

Scratch that. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO EXCITED. Even when I finally recieved Corey Lewis's Sharknife in the mail. Even when I got my STD results back clean. This is more exciting than anything else ever.

how much does shipping usually cost for something going from the US to Canada?

[info]mrobot

September 26 2005, 05:59:03 UTC 6 years ago

and are we to spend $10 US dollars or $10 Canadian dollars?? im not trying to send some guy in canada $10 worth of candy and only get $8.52719 worth back.

fair play!

screw you and your hairsplitting! $10 in the dollar-based currency of your choice.

also, a small package (up to 250 grams) costs just under $4 to ship from canada to the US, and it's pretty similar going in the other direction. check the USPS website for specifics.

Keep in mind that the same chocolate bar costs different amounts with conversion, too.
AND a Canadian quarter is accepted at par at most toll stations in the U.S. So if a Canadian pays only in quarters, does that make it any better? :P

P.S. Don't pair me with this guy! *S

Do Canadians spell Halloween like that all the time? I have seen several Canadians do it but I am not sure. I have just always wondered.

Additionally I will sign up, even though I am American and you have too many of us, but I will try to pimp it to my international friends.

that's the point no? to explore the mundane v. exotic nature of regionalism?

why yes, it is. what i mean is that the sender should wait til they have their partner's location, because if the recipient is from far enough away, they may not even have to LOOK for something strange. whereas if you get someone from the same country, it may be a bit more of a stretch.

hi, i just stumbled across this by random clicking.

anyway, i would love to participate. i'm living in japan right now, and go into coniptions on a regular basis over the AMAZING treats they have here. i was just in a very animated discussion with my friend about green tea flavor and white chocolate maple flavored kit-katts.

anyway, i hope i'm not too late.
